Rays Win First Postseason Series in Team History

Rays defied all odds by making the playoffs. Now they win first Postseason Series in team history.

Interresting facts:

The Rays became the fifth team in the expansion era (since 1961) to win their first postseason series. They are the second of those to clinch on the road. The Marlins also did so in ‘97, beating the Giants in the NLDS.
B.J. Upton went deep twice, becoming the first player with a last name starting with the letter U to post a multihomer game in postseason play. The letters F, I, Q, X and Z have never had one.
Tampa Bay’s top three hitters went 7-for-13 with four RBIs while Chicago’s were 1-for-10 with an RBI.
Andy Sonnanstine, who was winless in his last seven regular season starts, took the win for the Rays.

Worst in the majors last year, Tampa Bay will play for a spot in the World Series.

They are now only one step away from the World Series and history. But first they ’ve got to get through one of the juggernauts of the last five years… the Boston Red Sox. If I’m not mistaken the Rays had a winning record against Boston and they have home field advantage. It could be an interesting series.
